Few dive watches are as iconic as the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Originally introduced in 1953, it is considered one of the first dive watches, evolving into a diverse line of sizes, colors, and complications since its inception. Created by Jean-Jacques Fiechter, Blancpain's CEO and an avid diver, the watch was inspired by a near-fatal diving incident. Its design set the standard for dive watches, combining durability, water resistance, a secure rotating bezel, anti-magnetic properties, and exceptional readability. Named after a song from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, the Fifty Fathoms revolutionized watchmaking and established principles that still define the category. This specific watch is one of only 500 produced in this limited-edition format. Its standout features include, but are not limited to, a dual time zone displayed in a 24-hour format on the dial and a rotor designed to resemble a ship’s propeller. The watch is in overall very good condition with minor wear throughout commensurate with age. The movement is running at the time of cataloging, however, it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion.
